He’s not just the talk of his hometown of Carnduff, but Carter Beck (pictured) is the talk of the province of Saskatchewan right now after being selected in the first round of the Major League Baseball Draft back on Saturday afternoon.
The Atlanta Braves made the former Saskatoon Berries and Indiana State outfielder the 26th overall pick, in the first round. That makes Beck the earliest a Saskatchewan ball player has ever been chosen in the draft, as well as the first Canadian selected this year and the second-earliest Indiana State collegian picked in history. Beck will head to North Port, Florida, on Saturday and join the Florida Complex League Braves – at which time he will sign his first professional contract.
