The Snowbirds are scheduled to make passes over Saskatoon Tuesday before the team is grounded after this airshow season. The appearance transpired after Brian Swidrovich made a request for the Snowbirds to perform non-aerobatic flyovers and make a brief stop for fuel in Saskatoon.
Swidrovich was an organizer for the Canada Remembers Air show as well as an honorary Snowbird for his work in support the team.
There is also an even planned at the Saskatchewan Aviation Museum to let Snowbird enthusiasts get a firsthand look at the Tutor jets before the aircraft is retired at the end of this airshow season.
In May the federal government announced that the air demonstration team would be grounded pending the arrival of new aircraft which will take until the 2030’s.
A local community initiative in Moose Jaw, where the Snowbirds are based, is working to raise awareness about the future of the Snowbirds. The Keep Them Flying campaign involves postcards that are available at Tourism Moose Jaw and various businesses throughout downtown Moose Jaw. Those who wish to participate can stop by, sign a postcard, and have it mailed on their behalf.
As well, keepthemflying.ca has options as to how you can get involved in adding your voice to the efforts to keep the Snowbirds in the air until the new planes arrive.
