Saskatoon fire crews responded to two separate water rescue incidents on the South Saskatchewan River within about 12 hours.
Saturday afternoon, firefighters recovered an unmanned pontoon boat that was drifting down the river. The water rescue team brought the boat to shore, where it was reunited with its owner. No one was found on board and there were no injuries.
Then, just after 1:30am Sunday morning, firefighters rescued a person stranded on Yorath Island. With assistance from an RCMP drone, the person was located and taken to shore for medical attention. The incident has been turned over to RCMP for investigation. There has been no indication that the incidents are related.
Yorath Island is located north of Chief whitecap Park, adjacent to Furdale.
