A spring storm that has generated sustained, high winds to most of southern Saskatchewan could have an impact on power infrastructure. Environment Canada has issued a warning and suggests damaging winds could lead to utility outages.
SaskPower spokesperson Joel Cherry says if residents experience a power outage, they can check the online outage map to see it if has been reported and if not, then he urges those affected to file a report. As well any line contacts should also be reported.
“If you see a line down especially in a sensitive area, like say across a road you can also call 911to make sure we can respond as quickly as possible.”
Cherry notes that even if a line is not visibly energized, like not sparking, it should be treated with extreme caution and to maintain your distance – at least ten metres away.
Cherry also says the wind may impact repair times because the wind prevents crews from using bucket trucks which are often needed to complete repairs.
