Every year, the City of Saskatoon conducts two surveys to get a feel for how satisfied residents are with their quality of life and civic services.
Three-hundred and ninety-eight people responded to the Civic Satisfaction & Performance Survey, 82 per cent of which are satisfied with living in the city, a 2-percentage point decrease from 2024.
When asked what actions the city could take to improve their quality of life, 46 per cent said to address homelessness/affordable housing, while another 25 per cent said to improve public safety and reduce crime. When asked how housing affordability has affected residents over the last year, 68 per cent have made significant lifestyle changes to reduce spending… just over half saying that they considered leaving Saskatoon and moving somewhere else.
Meanwhile, the majority of 301 respondents to the Civic Services Performance Survey say they are satisfied with the quality of services provided by the city at 80 per cent, an increase of five percentage points from 2024. Highest levels of satisfaction were reported with electrical services, drinking water quality, and recycling collection. Lowest levels of contentment were seen in the policing, snow and ice road maintenance, and traffic management categories.
Somehow 10 per cent of respondents also wanted the city to provide less service to both Transit and policing.
The Governance and Priorities Committee will review the results at Wednesday’s meeting.
