As the leaders of nearly all Canadian provinces take action against Donald Trump’s 25 per cent tariffs, Saskatchewan’s premier is discussing his options with cabinet.

In a social media post yesterday, Scott Moe announced that “Canada’s response should not result in the same kind of self-inflicted harm that Trump is imposing on his citizens,” and added that he would be meeting with cabinet today to determine what further measures need to be taken.

NDP Jobs and Economy Critic Aleana Young questions how the Sask. Party Government didn’t have time to make a plan, even after learning of these tariffs over a month in advance.

“It’s shocking. We knew on Sunday night that these were coming, and somehow it takes the government of Saskatchewan three days to get their cabinet back to work.”

Actions taken by other premiers includes removing all U.S. alcohol from shelves, providing financial support to local businesses, and prioritizing Canadian procurement.

The NDP is also calling on the provincial government to immediately reopen the Legislature to respond to the crisis, instead of waiting until March 19th as scheduled.

“Saskatchewan workers and businesses are scared right now. They deserve to know that their elected leaders are working around the clock…not just doing the bare minimum,” Young explains.
