In an effort to make Saskatchewan’s economy less vulnerable to potential U.S. tariffs, the provincial NDP is calling on all levels of government to invest in means of getting Saskatchewan’s exports to new markets.

Party Leader Carla Beck says additional rail lines, pipelines, and power lines would allow greater access to international markets in Asia, Europe, Mexico, and South America. In a written release, she also blamed Saskatchewan’s reliance on the United States on the federal and provincial government’s past choices.

Beck says specific initiatives that should be undertaken as soon as possible include improving short-line rail, building a pipeline from Western Canada to the East coast, repair and expand electrical transmission lines into Alberta and Manitoba, and twinning Highway 1 across the entire country.
