Since 2019, former Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his company Harper and Associates have been paid $240,00 a year by the Saskatchewan government. That was brought up by the Official Opposition during Question Period on Monday. Jobs and Economy Critic Aleana Young mentioned that over the last 11 months, exports have been down. Young said during Question Period that the NDP wanted to find out what the company was doing for Saskatchewan to increase exports and attract investment, so a Freedom of Information request was written. Young says what they got back was redacted.
Trade and Export Development Minister, Jeremy Harrison didn’t answer what Harper and Associates does for the province but stressed that international engagement is of vital importance to Saskatchewan. He added that he wished Young had listened to the discussion at the Global Summit Monday morning with Harper in attendance, to hear about, “why our direct engagement with leaders around the world has resulted in literally hundreds of millions of dollars of opportunities for our companies to do business, which results in tens of thousands of jobs here.” The second-annual Food, Fuel, Fertilizer Global Summit is in Regina today (Mon) and tomorrow hosted by the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce.
