The Blades aren’t thrilled about it, but the Warriors are ecstatic because, fittingly enough, the Saskatoon-Moose Jaw best-of-seven W-H-L Eastern Conference final is going to a Game 7.
Lynden Lakovic scored at 2:57 of overtime to give the Warriors a 4-3 triumph Sunday afternoon and knot the series at 3-3. There were no wild momentum swings, as has been the case for several of the games in the set. Brayden Schuurman’s two goals sandwiched an Egor Sidorov tally in the first period for a 2-1 Moose Jaw lead. Bridge City Bunch forward Rowan Calvert (pictured) tied the score after 40 minutes with a power play marker. In the third frame, Charlie Wright gave the Blue and Gold their first and only lead of the contest, just three minutes into the period, only to have Rilan Kovacevic force overtime just before the mid-point of the third period – setting the stage for Lakovic’s heroics. Sidorov added two assists to his W-H-L playoff-best 15th goal and captain Trevor Wong chipped in a pair of helpers for Saskatoon. The series continues to be a battle of evenly-matched squads with five of the six games requiring extra time to decided, five of the six games have been tied after the second period, The Warriors have out-scored the Blades 21-20 in the series and out-shot them 200-199 in total. Sunday’s shot clock was 35-33 in Moose Jaw’s favour. The deciding contest between the Blades and Warriors goes Tuesday at SaskTel Centre at 7 o’clock. CJWW’s broadcast starts at 6:45 p.m. with the Palliser Rooms E-Q-3 Cutting Edge Pre-Game Show.
