Canfax reports year-to-date, the volume of Saskatchewan feeder cattle sold is 122,282 head—or 24 per cent below the same period one year ago.
There have been several weeks where there have not been enough sales to generate a price range in specific weight categories. For example, last week there were only four of seven steer weight categories with a price range.
There is also a lot of price variability with 500-600 pound steers reporting an average decline of $18.62 per hundredweight, while 800-900 pound steers were $5.43 per hundredweight above the previous week.
Prices of live, non-fed cattle in Alberta continued to climb higher than the previous week. The price of D2 slaughter cows averaged $174.54 per hundredweight, an increase of $2.86 above the previous week. The price of D3 slaughter cows increased $8.73 over the week to average $162.79 per hundredweight. Cow prices have continued to set new record highs each week since March.
