It’s my Parting Shot to discuss what’s left for the Saskatoon Blades to do over the final 10 days of the 2023-24 W-H-L regular-season…..
The Bridge City Bunch have clinched first place finishes in the East Division and the Eastern Conference, thanks to Tuesday’s win at home over Brandon. This is just my opinion because of my age and general health, but I’m happy that this weekend’s home-and-home series between the Blue and Gold and Moose Jaw has no standings implications. The playoff run could be long enough and loaded with drama that I need to keep my blood pressure down until the 29th of March!
What is left to achieve, you may ask, aside from the obvious trying to win the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy for a fifth time in franchise history, with five games remaining?
Three more wins gives the Blades 49 for the season, one more than last year!
Picking up five of a possible 10 points would give Saskatoon 102 for the season, one more than last year!
Four wins in the final five games would give the Bridge City Bunch 50 for the season – the third time that has been accomplished in franchise history – and the four wins would be enough to give the Blue and Gold first place overall and home-ice advantage throughout the entire W-H-L post-season!
Of course that last phrase requires a lot of good fortune starting March 29th and for eight weeks beyond that! Yes, I can faintly hear the section of jaloonies in Prince Albert that will, correctly, point out that the Blades have never won a W-H-L title while their beloved Raiders have won two! Touche!! What is quite muffled from them sounds like the word, choke. I’ve got a major rebuttal to that when the time is right, armed with a fact that the P-A fanatics are sure to not like, but their people inside the franchise’s office doors know to be true!!
Hi, ho, let’s go!!!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!…..
