A poor grade for Saskatchewan on a Vaccine Report Card from a national seniors’ advocacy organization. CanAge gave our province a “D-Minus” for providing inadequate funding to distribute some recommended vaccines.
One of the big gaps in Saskatchewan is not funding the highly effective shingles vaccine. The government has also not updated documentation on funding best-in-class pneumonia vaccines as recommended by the National Advisory Committee on Immunization over six months ago.
CanAge Chief Executive Officer Tamblyn Watts says the best-in-class pneumonia vaccinations are critical for vulnerable seniors, or any adult living in a long-term care setting.
She does credit the province with funding senior-specific flu vaccines and implementing a comprehensive annual influenza program.
