Two people from Saskatoon are facing a number of charges after an altercation with a cab driver on Saturday night.
At 10:15 p.m., Patrol officers responded to Ruth Street and Lorne Avenue after a cab driver reported a physical altercation with two passengers after didn’t pay for their ride.
A nearby man fleeing the area was identified as the suspect, and officers pursued him on-foot and arrested him without further incident. He appeared to be under the influence of an intoxicant and had blood on his clothes.
Officers then arrested a woman nearby, who was also believed to be involved. As she was being placed under arrest, she assaulted an officer. Two other victims, aside from the 47-year-old cab driver, were located nearby suffering from non-life-threatening injuries. One of them was transported to hospital for treatment.
Through investigation, officers determined that at the end of the cab ride, the suspects refused to pay, and a fight broke out resulting in driver being assaulted. The two other victims, ages 16 and 18, unknown to the cab driver and suspects, observed the altercation and attempted to break it up when they were also assaulted by the man.
As a result, a 25-year-old man is charged with Aggravated Assault, Assault, Fraud and Breach of Conditions, and a 20-year-old woman is charged with Assault and Assaulting a Police Officer.
