There has been another positive case of Dutch elm disease confirmed in Saskatoon’s Forest Grove area.
The City has initiated its DED response plan, which includes removing all positive trees, sampling trees within one kilometre of the infected tree, and continuing regular city-wide elm surveillance.
There are 3 trees affected along Central Avenue and 28 more awaiting test results. This is the fourth occurrence of this disease so far this year.
In impacted areas, Parks staff will be checking every property for elm firewood or brush and removing it when it is found. If residents are not home, staff will remove the elm wood and leave an Elm Infraction Notice with a note indicating that the wood was removed.
Dutch Elm Disease is spread by the elm bark beetle. In Saskatoon, elms make up 25% of the public urban forest.
