A summer temperatures approach, overheating and dehydration are potential risks that are faced when spending any time outdoors. To combat this, the Saskatoon Emergency Managment Organization has collaborated with Westside Community Clinic and the Saskatoon Fire Department to provide some reprieve.
EMO Director Pamela Goulden-McLeod says the organization is providing three misting tents to festivals taking place over the summer to prevent the risk of overheating. They are portable, can be set up within five minutes, and provide a cooling vapor when given a water source.
The second initiative includes offering a 24-hour outdoor water bottle filling station. It’s an option for people who are experiencing homelessness to access water during the hot summer months. As the weather regulates itself in the fall, both the tents and the filling station will be removed.
