Spring road bans are being lifted for priority agricultural products, such as seed, fuel and fertilizer.
“We have been working with SARM (Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities) and the RM’s to provide consent to determine which roads can handle secondary weights,” Highways and Infrastructure Minister Greg Ottenbreit said in a news release. “At the same time, we will work with these municipalities to monitor roads to prevent unnecessary road damage
“R.M.’s will have to check their roads,” said Ray Orb, president of the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities. “They have the right to opt out if (for example) there is a lot of snow or rain, but if we get good weather, I think many R.M.’s will use this program.”
Shippers will not need permits for priority good this year. Official spring road restriction orders will be issued every Tuesday and Friday.
