The City of Saskatoon and a consortium of builders have received a National Award for Innovation and Excellence in Public-Private Partnerships. The city is one of five winners this year for the awards presented by the Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnerships. Saskatoon gets the Infrastructure Award for the North Commuter Parkway and Traffic Bridge project. The Council says the project was more than about improved infrastructure and reduced commutes; it was also about building a more inclusive community. The name of the Parkway Bridge pays tribute to Chief Mistawasis, the Cree Chief who signed Treaty 6. Also of note, the design of the Traffic Bridge used complex engineering to preserve the historical character of the replaced bridge while meeting today’s safety standards. The project was the first bundled transportation P3 in Canada.
