The numbers are preliminary, but it looks like the City of Saskatoon’s budget for 2017 had a $3.1-million deficit.

Director of Finance, Clae Hack, says unfortunately there are years when deficits occur. He emphasizes there won’t be a significant impact to the City’s finances or operationsbecause of their practice of saving surpluses from past years to help offset any future deficits. The $3-million is a small percentage of an overall Civic Operating Budget of $477.6-million. Hack says the shortfall is from non-tax revenue, where user fees and other forms of revenue like Transit and parking fines have remained flat or decreased year over year. A report will be presented to the Standing Policy Committee on Finance at its meeting on Monday.
