The Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team has cleared two RCMP officers after the death of a man near Deschambault Lake.
The situation took place on August 8, 2025. Two members from the local RCMP Detachment encountered a group in a wooded area near the village of Deschambault Lake, where a gunshot had recently been discharged. The two RCMP members approached the group and let one man know he was under arrest. A different 19-year-old man in the group then pointed a firearm at police.
The RCMP members responded by firing their service pistols. Several bullets hit the man who fell to the ground. He later died of his injuries at the scene, and the rest of the group was taken into RCMP custody. Toxicology results showed there was alcohol, methamphetamine, and cocaine present in the man’s blood at high enough levels to intoxicate him, but not enough to have caused his death.
The SIRT report found that the incident fell “within the range protected by law.”
