Meadow Lake RCMP have charged 28-year-old Gavin Burnouf with arson following a church fire that destroyed a church on 2nd Street East in Meadow Lake on October 1.

A Saskatchewan RCMP news release says no one was injured, but the building was a total loss.

Burnouf was arrested November 2 and appeared in provincial court on Thursday.

RCMP say the investigation involved the North Battleford Serious Crimes Unit and Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency fire investigators.

Investigators have found no indication the fire was motivated by ideological reasons.
