Art enthusiasts and music lovers can unite as one this Saturday, as a unique combination of visual components and orchestral music hits the stage at the Sid Buckwold Theatre at TCU Place.
Conductor Kevin Zakresky, originally from Saskatoon, says Picasso Symphony highlights thousands of Pablo Picasso’s works while the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra takes on tunes from throughout his over 70-year art career.
“There are great works that go along with Picasso’s time during the war. We even found really great Spanish orchestral music to set the stage at the beginning, because, of course, he’s from Spain.”
He adds that this production is unlike any project he’s ever worked on.
“For a conductor, it’s like getting to do an orchestra concert ‘plus’, and the audiences have loved it!”
Audience members will also be up close and personal with all of Picasso’s works.
“Above the stage is a very, very large screen that allows for a massive representative of thousands of works by Picasso. All of these works go with the music that’s happening on the stage, so the timing lines up so that certain shots end up lining up with certain musical elements.”
Zakresky hopes audience members leave understanding how much the SSO has to offer the community and culture Saskatoon has to offer. The production runs on Saturday at 7:30 at TCU Place. Limited tickets are still available at saskatoonsymphony.org.
