The Saskatchewan government has introduced new legislation aimed at strengthening the province’s response to human trafficking.
A news release from the province says the proposed law would require hotels, motels, short-term rental operators, online accommodation platforms and driver-for-hire services to report suspected human trafficking cases to police.
The legislation would also require more detailed hotel guest records and give police expanded authority to access those records when investigating potential trafficking cases.
Additional measures include updated protections for victims forced into debt by traffickers.
The province says the changes build on ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking and support victims across Saskatchewan.
