Every day, a Saskatoon mom chooses to drive her son 30 minutes across the city to daycare, even though there are others closer by.
Brooke Cross-Worobec says she does that so her 18-month-old can attend the new Metis Nation- Saskatchewan Early Learning and Childcare Centre.
The brand-new building, located in Kensington, offers 90 childcare spaces, Metis-focused toys, activities, and books, Elder visits, and Indigenous language teachings.
“He comes home, and he’s learning things every day about his language, his culture, His community. It is a community here for him, so for me it’s super important to being him here.”
Cross-Worobec says she’s been searching for the perfect daycare since she was pregnant.
“Going back to work, having to leave your little one is never an easy choice. It’s super difficult, and bringing him here makes it a little bit easier.”
The centre is also one of three built by MN–S in the province. Prince Albert opened in September, and the ground has been blessed at the Regina location.
