Farmer, agriculture advocate, public speaker and corporate director.
Those are just some of the job titles for Mossbank-area farmer Cherilyn Jolly-Nagel.
On Tuesday, she added the 2026 Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan Champion Award to her resume. It is given to someone who engages consumers about agriculture and builds public trust in farmers.
Jolly-Nagel says her outreach is done the old-fashion way—in person and not on social media.
Early in her career while serving as President of the Western Canadian Wheat Growers Association, she was focused on agricultural policy issues such as transportation, trade and government regulations. While she believed those issues were critical to moving the industry forward, she eventually realized consumers also wanted to know more about how their food was produced and how farmers cared for the environment.
“I quickly realized that I had grossly underestimated the importance of building relationships and sharing the stories around how much we care for the land, the environmental impact that farmers have and the safety of our food system.”
She credits Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan with helping transform her understanding of the role communication plays in modern agriculture. Jolly-Nagel went on to leading workshops to assist other farmers develop skills to relate their on-farm experiences to an urban audience.
Jolly-Nagel received the award during an event held at Innovation Place in Saskatoon during Agriculture Week in Saskatchewan
