Saskatoon’s public confidence in police is unchanged year-over-year, but it isn’t that high. 

According to a recent survey, the Advanis Police Service Benchmarks Study, 56 per cent of respondents rate the service’s overall job as excellent or good. This is unchanged from 2025. 

Meanwhile, residents also reported increased concern about crime and safety. Three quarters of respondents believed crime had increased over the past five years and just over 40 per cent reported that they or someone in their household had experienced personal, property, or financial victimization in the past year. 

The SPS says residents aren’t wrong, as the survey’s measure of resident perceptions and experiences is consistent with SPS-reported growth of 8 per cent in total crime over the last 5 years.  

Areas with the most concern for public safety according to the survey include public spaces and on transit. This year, just 46 per cent of people would feel safe taking public transit, down from 61 per cent in 2025. Thirty-six pe cent felt unsafe walking alone after dark.
