Saskatoon athlete wins world championship gold with Canadian track and field
relay team
SASKATOON, SK — September 8, 2026 — Saskatoon masters
track athlete Trevor Jacek has returned from Daegu, South
Korea, with a world championship gold medal after helping
Canada win the men’s 45–49 4×400-metre relay at the 2026
World Masters Athletics Championships.
Jacek joined teammates Marcus Skeete, Patrice Doucet and
Luke Grinder on the Canadian team, which captured gold on
September 3.
“Winning a world championship with these guys is something
I’ll remember for the rest of my life,” said Jacek. “When they
played O Canada, it was a 10/10 peak human experience. To
stand together at the end as world champions was an incredible
feeling.”
Jacek, 45, is a member of Saskatoon’s Running Wild Athletics.
He competes primarily in the 400 and 800 metres and has
represented Canada at numerous international masters
championships.
Earlier in the world championships in Daegu, Jacek advanced to
the semifinals of the individual 400 metres, finishing ninth
overall and narrowly missing the eight-man final.
Masters athletics offers competitive track and field
opportunities for athletes aged 35 and older, with international
championships contested in five-year age categories. The
Canadian team’s victory highlights the level of competition and
commitment among masters athletes and demonstrates that
world-class sporting achievements are possible well beyond
traditional professional athletic careers.
Jacek is also the Chief Financial Officer of the Mid-West Group
of Companies in Saskatoon, balancing his training and racing
with his professional, community and family commitments.
