The fall session is not scheduled to begin until October 27—much too long for the provincial NDP.

Leader Carla Beck says legislature is needed back in session to pass laws to make life more affordable as well as to debate additional measures to support workers in tariff-impacted economic sectors.

“So far, the Premier has had a weak response to these job-killing Trump tariffs,” Beck said in a news release.

She points to programs being offered in Manitoba and BC to assist tariff-affected workers with career coaching, retraining and skills grants. Those are NDP governments, but the Ontario Conservative government is using investment tax credits to protect manufacturing jobs.

The NDP says a good starting point in Saskatchewan are bills introduced by the Opposition during the spring session. These include reversing power rate and car insurance increase, rent-control and ending taxes on children’s clothing.
