eHealth Saskatchewan is warning residents about a scam regarding their health cards.

The scam sees the recipient receive a text message or phone call claiming to be from eHealth Saskatchewan and telling them that their Saskatchewan health card is expired, outdated, or requires an immediate replacement.

People are then asked to click a link to update their information and sometimes asked to pay a fee or provide personal information to resolve the issue.

eHealth Saskatchewan reminds people that there is no charge for a Saskatchewan health card. They advise not to click any links or provide any personal info.

The warning comes as Saskatchewan enters a health card renewal season. People can expect to see renewal stickers appearing in the mail in mid-September through the end of October.

Residents are encouraged to visit eHealth’s website to learn more about the scam and the health card renewal campaign at ehealthsask.ca.

Here’s what residents need to know:

• Most Saskatchewan health cards expire at the end of December 2026.
• Health cards that do not expire December 2026 have an expiry date printed directly on the card.
• Renewal stickers will be automatically mailed to eligible households starting mid-September.

A message or call is likely a scam if it:

• Includes an unofficial web address, which may closely resembleehealthsask.ca.
• Originates from an international or unusual phone number.
• Claims to be from a “Health Card Service Centre” or other organization (real or fake) that does not manage Saskatchewan health cards.
• Creates a sense of urgency by claiming you must act immediately to avoid losing health coverage.
• Asks you to take action to “renew” your health card – health card stickers are automatically mailed to you.
• Asks for payment, banking information or personal information over the phone or through a link.
• eHealth Saskatchewan encourages residents to remain vigilant and avoid clicking links or sharing personal information if they receive a suspicious message or phone call.
