The Saskatoon Police Service is praising its members after a dramatic weekend rescue.
In a social media post the police service says a patrol officer from A-Platoon assisted in what could have been a life-threatening situation.
On Friday, around 8:00 p.m., officers were called to the Silverwood dog park near the 3700 block of Kinnear Avenue, where a young man had become trapped in a storm drain near the river.
The first responding officer made his way down and found heavy rainfall had caused a significant amount of storm water and pinned a young man against a gate.
Knowing the Fire Department was en route, the officer crawled into the storm drain and reached through the bars to keep the man’s head above water. The officer remained in place as members from SFD arrived and a rescue could be coordinated.
After nearly two hours the man was brought to safety and transported to the hospital by paramedics.
