A family from Biggar says it was stuck with a $1,300 ambulance bill when their son had to be transferred to Prince Albert for care.
Before being transferred to PA, doctors tried to transfer the boy to Saskatoon, North Battleford and Swift Current, but the hospitals in those places couldn’t provide the proper care at the time.
At an event hosted by the NDP, the mother of the family, Amy Haynes, said their child had a 40°C fever
“The biggest thing is I just want to see things improve in our province because it shouldn’t be this hard to access care.”
Alongside the ambulance bill, the family was also handling finding a place to stay, taking time off work to be with their son, and finding childcare for their other son.
