It’s my Parting Shot for some Weekend Short Shots…..
Something rare happened last night in the Wonderful World of Sports – or the Toy Department, as I like to call it! The same final score was recorded in both the lone games on the schedule in the C-F-L and the N-F-L! Well, it’s rare as far as I’m concerned – and I wonder what the odds are on that actually happening?!
Now, which was the better game? I don’t know because I didn’t watch either – but I’m willing to bet they were both dramatic finishes with the final score being within one score. To me, that means entertainment. I don’t care about the esthetics as to the quality of play – believe me, both leagues have their share of clunkers. So far this season, 20 of the 34 C-F-L games have been decided by one score. That’s 58-point-eight per cent. I’ll go out on a limb and say the C-F-L will have a higher percentage of games decided in their 2026 regular-season than the N-F-L will when play starts next month. That’s because there’s more games in the N-F-L – and that fact is the reason why so many young people prefer the N-F-L over the C-F-L – more games to wager on and, possibly, win big!!
By the way, both leagues have a place in my life – I don’t need to pick one over the other. So, go Bombers and Riders – and go Minnesota Vikings!!
The Western Canadian Baseball League’s post-season starts tonight – by the way, the league wants the final run to the championship known as the post-season, not playoffs! For whatever reason!! Anyway, the best team I’ve seen in the loop, in my involvement as play-by-play person for Saskatoon Berries’ home games on the W-C-B-L website through Flo College streaming, is the Okotoks Dawgs. If The Fearless Predictor were to be tied up and threatened with bodily harm in order to force me to make a selection, I would say the Dawgs – but anyone of six teams out of the eight in the post-season are capable of winning six games over the next 10 days or so – the Berries included! In order for that to happen, the Saskatoon side needs to have their bats come up clutch and their bullpen shut down the opposition in order to overcome, what I see, are the strength of starting pitching from first round opponent Regina, then likely Moose Jaw and ultimately Okotoks! We’ll see!!
