A serious collision that took place last week is prompting some changes at one of Saskatoon’s busiest intersections.

For the next three months, the median at the intersection of Idylwyld Drive and 71st Street will be closed.

The City says this change is aimed at simplifying traffic movements and reducing potential conflict points associated with the increased traffic volumes generated by the current closure of Wanuskewan Drive.

An emailed statement from the City adds that the longer-term plan for the junction includes a planning study, which will determine the future transportation network needs for the major roads in the north industrial area of Saskatoon. “The study will also establish how the transportation network will connect to the provincial highway system and the future Saskatoon Freeway,” the statement reads.

In addition to that study, the City is also completing a functional planning study for Idylwyld Drive between 60th Street and 71st Street to identify short- to medium-term solutions. The work is currently underway, and the City anticipates public engagement in late fall or early winter.
