This is Vanese Ferguson with Coffee Talk. Tipping has become an irritant at times for me when using my credit card or debit card. The places you go that the tipping starts at 18 per cent is really irksome. Years ago, I had a restaurant owner tell me that I should never tip the taxed amount but the amount before tax. Fair. Seem a bit chintzy. In Saskatchewan now owners can longer keep the tips their servers make although how that is possibly enforced I have absolutely no idea. The suggestion was made to ensure the server gets the tip they deserve for the service provided, use cash. I have to admit, a lot of the time I don’t carry cash, but it is something to ponder. And a business owner weighed on a discussion about said topic saying it costs business owners 3 per cent when a customer tips on their credit card which can add up to a lot of money in a year and they also urged customers to tip in cash. So, I guess I’ll be hitting up the ATM today.
