Until a safety review is able to be conducted, the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency is temporarily pausing three Bird Dog aircraft from aerial wildfire suppression activities.
A release from the Province says the aircraft are the same model as the one that recently crashed in the Northwest Territories, an incident in which all three people on board were killed.
In an effort to minimize impacts on wildfire suppression efforts, the SPSA says it has reconfigured aircraft groupings and operational assignments across its fleet.
The SPSA still has four Bird Dogs available to support current wildfire suppression requirements across the province, and it has also brought in extra aircraft from out of province, including a Bird Dog.
There are currently 70 active wildfires in the province, eight of which are not contained.
