Saskatchewan was one of the four provinces that saw gas prices decline over the last week.
According to GasBuddy, average retail gasoline prices in Saskatoon have fallen 3.4 c/L, averaging 156.64 c/L on Sunday. This compares with the national average that has fallen 0.4 c/L in the last week to 160.72 c/L.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, says “The Maritimes saw the biggest jumps in both gasoline and diesel, as those markets are particularly exposed to global refining supply pressures.”
He adds that continued Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil infrastructure have forced Russia to shift from fuel exporter to importer, tightening global supplies, accounting for why pump prices haven’t dropped as sharply as oil prices might suggest. De Haan adds that until the refining supply picture improves, Canadians can expect the path to lower prices at the pump to remain gradual and uneven.
