Saskatchewan RCMP are joining the Saskatoon Police Service, Regina Police Service, and others in an investigation following multiple reports of a text message scam targeting members of the public. The Saskatoon Police Service earlier this week also sent out a similar warning
On Monday Battlefords RCMP received complaints of fraudulent text messages regarding outstanding traffic citations. The text message claims to be from the Provincial Court of Saskatchewan and says the recipient has a provincial court traffic violation and must appear in court. It then asks people to click a link to pay a fine.
Officers have noted the messages originated from a phone number using a +21 area code.
Saskatchewan RCMP advise the public to not text back, block the phone number immediately, not to click on any links provided in these messages, not to send any money or gift cards, and to keep a record of the texts.
If you have been a victim of any fraud or scam, please report this to the Saskatchewan RCMP or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
