The Prince Albert RCMP say their officers seized a firearm from a stolen truck after it drove into a police vehicle.
On the morning of June 12th which was last Friday, Prince Albert RCMP received multiple reports related to a truck that was previously reported as stolen in the City of Prince Albert.
Around 1:40 p.m., when the stolen truck was found parked outside a home in the community of Little Red River, officers blocked in the truck with police vehicles.
The RCMP say as an officer was getting out of their cruiser when the stolen truck reversed at a high rate of speed and collided with a police vehicle. The driver then jumped out and tried to take off on foot but was arrested at the scene.
No one was injured in the incident although the police vehicle was damaged and deemed inoperable.
RCMP say a search of the stolen truck turned up a sawed-off firearm and a knife. Twenty-seven-year-old Jeremy Gardiner from Île-à-la-Crosse is facing 10 charges and was in provincial court on Monday.
Jeremy Gardiner is charged with:
-one count, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, Section 320.13(1), Criminal Code;
-one count, possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code;
-one count, possession of a prohibited weapon when knowing possession unauthorized, Section 92(2), Criminal Code;
-one count, possession of firearm/weapon/ammunition in motor vehicle, Section 94(1), Criminal Code;
-one count, resist/obstruct peace officer, Section 129(a), Criminal Code;
-one count, mischief over $5000 – damage to motor vehicle, Section 430(3), Criminal Code;
-one count, fail to comply with court ordered conditions, Section 145(5)(a), Criminal Code; and
-three counts, weapons possession contrary to order, Section 117.01(1), Criminal Code.
