The Saskatoon Board of Police Commissioners will be reviewing data from 2025 regarding ‘flight from police’ events and use of force on Thursday.

In 2025, Saskatoon police engaged in 102 ‘flight from police’ events with no pursuit, 80 incidents where pursuit was necessary, 46 events where the flight was terminated, and 8 instances of the aerial support unit helping out. These numbers are relatively on par with 2024 levels, except for the number of non-pursuits, which was only 77 in 2024. When it comes to police chases, the average duration was 3 minutes and 21 seconds. The number of pursuits that involved stolen vehicles was 32. Fifty per cent of police chases ended with an arrest, and 29 of the chases resulted in a damaged subject vehicle. In 8 cases, the police vehicle was the one to get damaged.

When it comes to use of force, it was utilized in only 0.17 per cent of calls in 2025. This looks like 183 instances among a total of 108,406 calls for service, which is a slight reduction from 2024. The SPS attributes the need for force to the severity and quantity of calls dispatched. Dispatched calls for service increased by 3.1 per cent in 2025. Looking at specific types of force, police used tasers 32 times, a member of the canine unit 23 times, and a spit hood 11 times, to name a few.
