SGI is telling drivers to mind the signs this month as part of its traffic safety spotlight.
Heather Hubic with SGI says even if it seems unnecessary, it’s important to brush up on fundamental driving skills such as what each road sign and signal mean.
“Drivers, they have a lot to focus on when they’re behind the wheel. Along with safely operating their vehicle and watching out for others on the road, they really need to pay attention to those different signs and signals to help guide them and get them from point A to B safely.”
In Saskatchewan, traffic control device disregard makes up 4 per cent of collisions, driver inattention makes up for 11 per cent of collisions, and failure to yield makes up 11 per cent of collisions.
She adds that in order to have your full attention on the road, you need to leave your distractions, worries, and wonderings at the door when getting behind the wheel.
Hubic says anticipating the lights is another great skill to have when being a cautious yet defensive driver.
