The City of Prince Albert is alerting residents that, because of elevated river flows, Little Red River Park will close to the public effective 2:00 p.m. Friday.
The City says this is just a precautionary measure being taken while crews continue to monitor water levels, which are currently manageable, however, forecasts indicate flows may increase over the weekend and into next week.
A release from the City says crews will be working in the park assessing and implementing measures to help protect park infrastructure and reduce potential impacts if water levels continue to rise. Residents are asked to respect all closures and signage and avoid entering the park until further notice.
Meanwhile, the Saskatchewan NDP is demanding accountability from the provincial government after they say multiple roads in the Prince Albert area were washed away.
The Opposition’s news release says this has “left residents vulnerable and municipalities scrambling to respond as water levels continue to rise.”
It adds that repeated warnings from municipalities about deteriorating roads have been ignored, while the Highways budget saw capital spending reduced by $20.5 million, dropping from $421.4 million in 2025–26 to $400.9 million in 2026–27.
