Saskatchewan Housing Corporation
The government of Saskatchewan gave a preliminary estimate that $331,000 had been lost between 2019 to June 2023 due to suspected misappropriation of funds for payments made to a fake vendor for work orders not completed. This was under the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation budget, and a Cumberland House Housing Authority manager was terminated. The matter was reported to the police and continues to be under investigation. The insurance company has accepted a claim, for which the amount is currently under review.
The Prince Albert Housing Authority general manager was also terminated due to misappropriation of fund by altering invoices for personal reimbursement. This took place between 2020 and February 2025 and the matter was reported to the police. The former manager pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a four-month conditional sentence order followed by two years of probation, and to pay restitution in the amount of $18,500 by December 31, 2027. $9,000 has been recovered to date.
And in March 2026 also under the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation purview, its alleged banking information was fraudulently changed by someone impersonating a supplier of the La Ronge Regional Housing Authority. As a result, payment to the supplier was redirected to an inappropriate bank account. The amount misappropriated totalled $35,142.60. The matter was reported to the police and is under investigation.
SaskEnergy
In a report on public losses the Government of Saskatchewan says between February 2024 – Summer 2025 there was internal fuel theft taking place, primarily in the Construction department to the tune of $10,218.66.
The matter has been reported to police and SaskEnergy says it plans to recover the value of the fuel taken.
As well, an initial internal control and security assessment has been performed and enhanced controls with respect to fuel purchases have been identified.
