The Saskatchewan Equine Expo is back with a fresh format in 2026. The brand-new event, titled Equine Experience, is setting up shop at the Prairieland Ag Centre this weekend, May 2nd and 3rd.
Agriculture Director Leigh Ann Hurlburt says this event is completely different from the Equine Expo, as it is geared towards helping youth and beginner riders get acquainted with horses in a safe and welcoming environment.
“It’s about encouraging youth to come and check out horses. If you are a rider, come and check out some of the clinics we have, some sessions, and if you aren’t and you’re interested in horses, come and meet some.”
She adds that there are experiences and opportunities tailored to all comfort levels to ensure that no one is left out, including brushing and leading, riding demos and lessons, horsemanship sessions, and live clinics.
“If it’s your first time and you’re just coming to meet a horse, we have events on Saturday and Sunday where you can come out and meet a horse, work with a horse, pet a horse, lead it around. See if it’s something that interests you. For those that are into horses and are experienced, we have two great clinicians her that are going to be doing sessions.”
Those sessions include horsemanship and barrel racing. For those who already have a horse of their own, veterinary talks will guide listeners through emergency preparedness, pain recognition, and senior horse care.
Gates open at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, and it’s $10 at the door.
