Charges laid after death at P.A. pen

Two inmates have been charged following the death of another inmate yesterday at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary.

Thirty-three-year-old Horace Bear was the inmate who died. He was serving a sentence of 2 years, 9 months, and 24 days, which commenced on December 13, 2024.

Now, 26-year-old Eugene Caisse and 25-year-old Britain Volk are each charged with one count, second-degree murder,

In addition, 26-year-old Steven Smokeyday and 26-year-old Lauder Bear are each charged with one count, aggravated assault in connection to several other injuries that occured. One of the injured inmates was treated and returned to the institution later that evening, while another inmate remains hospitalized.

Court dates for the males have not been confirmed yet. Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit continue to investigate.
