About 7000 Saskatoon residents will get a chance to make their mark on the new public library, slated to open in 2027.
Carol Shepstone, CEO of Saskatoon Public Library, says members of the public are invited to come by and help construct a 256,000 piece, 10 by 16-foot Lego mosaic.
“We really tried to find ways to engage the community in making something really special for the new central library. This is a super exciting, all ages, community-inspired event.”
Shepstone says the mosaic is made up of 6-inch by 6-inch tiles.
“When you join us for one of the drop-ins, you can follow the instructions and then build that piece of the Lego mosaic, and there’s just over 7000 of these six-by-six plates that will be put together to make the overall mosaic.”
The finished product will bring a field of native plant species to the library wall, including the Dotted blazing star, the Paper birch, and of course, the Saskatoon berry.
She says there are several drop-in build sessions taking place between April and July. There is a list of these events available here.
