The Saskatchewan N-D-P is raising new concerns about the proposed Sherwood-area hyperscale A-I data centre, alleging that the two main technology companies connected to the project, Cerebras and CoreWeave, have financial ties to U-S President Donald Trump and Donald Trump Junior.
According to an N-D-P news release, White House financial disclosures show Donald Trump holds bonds in CoreWeave, while Donald Trump Junior is connected to investment firm 1789 Capital, which has invested in Cerebras.
The companies were previously identified as key tenants that will help fund and supply computing infrastructure for the data centre.
N-D-P Leader Carla Beck and Shadow Minister Brittney Senger argue the Saskatchewan Party government has not been transparent about the project and has failed to adequately address concerns about public consultation, power requirements, environmental impacts and data sovereignty.
They question whether Saskatchewan residents’ data could be managed by companies linked to the Trump family.
The release also criticizes the government’s recent framework for future data-centre development, saying it lacks details on how promises regarding Canadian ownership, partnerships, and data sovereignty will be enforced.
