A 34-year-old man from Red Earth Cree Nation is facing nine charges, including aggravated assault and forcible confinement, following a shooting investigation on Shoal Lake Cree Nation.
On March 10 at 5:15 a.m., Carrot River RCMP received a report of a shooting on the Cree Nation. Responding officers found a seriously injured man in a vehicle on Highway #55. He was taken to hospital.
Officers say they learned that an altercation occurred between two men at a home on Shoal Lake Cree Nation, where a firearm was discharged, injuring the victim who then fled the house.
Police say the other male, who was still inside, blocked a woman from leaving the house. He later left the residence.
Billy Whitecap appeared in court in Nipawin on March 11, and Carrot River RCMP continue to investigate.
