A Saltcoats man was in court on Monday after officers charged him with driving 176 km/h in a 100 km/h zone in an attempt to flee from police.
The man was first observed speeding north down Highway #29 on February 21st. Officers say an unsuccessful traffic stop was attempted, and the driver turned down a rural road despite the winter road conditions.
After running over an RCMP tire deflation device, the vehicle veered off the road and came to a stop at the edge of a frozen body of water.
Three men got out of the vehicle, and 22-year-old Jacob Lowen is now facing five charges.
