Three Hills RCMP in Alberta have charged a 64-year-old man with personating a peace officer after spotting an older model Ford Crown Victoria parked at a home in the community of Elnora that appeared to have a badge on the bumper that read, “police interceptor”.
Their investigation determined the vehicle was seen last October near Sylvan Lake driving at a high rate of speed with blue lights flashing. Two other drivers had reported the vehicle and said at first they thought it was a police vehicle.
A search warrant was obtained and the vehicle was seized where RCMP found a fully functional siren and PA system. The investigation revealed the Ford Crown Victoria was a decommissioned police vehicle, however, it had been outfitted with police style equipment.
Randy Telford from Elnora has been charged and RCMP think there could be more complaints linked to the case, they urge the public to report them to RCMP.
During the mass-shooting in Portapique, Nova Scotia April 18, 2020, the gunman drove a fully marked replica RCMP vehicle and was wearing a police uniform.
