The Opposition NDP says the unsafe conditions in Saskatoon have led to businesses locking their doors during the day.
A release from the NDP says party members found 10 businesses on 2nd Avenue South with signs on their front doors telling patrons to ring the doorbell as the front doors are locked by suggestion of the Saskatoon Police Service.
The release continues by citing data from the Saskatoon Police, stating there were 10 assaults, four vehicle thefts and eight reported thefts under $5,000 in just 24 hours between Sunday and Monday. It adds that recently released data reported 4,800 violent crime incidents total in Saskatoon last year, or more than 13 per day.
The Party says these figures should act as a catalyst for change in the Legislature, as Saskatchewan needs “a government that will take real, concrete action to fight crime and help desperate people get the support they need.”
