It was a pretty simple and obvious reason why Edmonton prevailed 3-1 over Saskatoon Friday night at SaskTel Centre.

The Oil Kings scored all of their goals on the power play, in six chances, while the Bridge City Bunch were oh-for-six on the man advantage. The result means it was Edmonton, not the Blue and Gold, who extended a lengthy winning streak. The Oil Kings are now on a seven-game winning run, ending the Blades positive streak at four games. Czech import centre Max Curran scored two of Edmonton’s power play goals while American defenceman Blake Fiddler notched the other. Saskatoon blueliner Isaac Poll broke Parker Snell’s shutout bid with three seconds remaining in the second period. The win boosted the Oil Kings’ record to 28-7-4 for 60 points, tied with Prince Albert for second place in the Eastern Conference, one point back of leading Medicine Hat. Edmonton visits the Raiders Saturday night. At 21-15-3, the Bridge City Bunch are still tied for second place in the East Division and fourth in the Conference with Brandon, one point ahead of Calgary. However, the Wheat Kings have a game in hand on the Blue and Gold while the Hitmen have four games in hand on the Blades in the battle for fourth place, a spot that means home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Saskatoon’s next game is Wednesday at home to Brandon.
